Elaine,
Do you have the BCG Standards Manual? It has quite a few examples of all
sorts of reports and may give you ideas on how to organize yourself. At
least it is a great reference book and should be on every genealogists'
shelf.

I commend you for realizing that personal research reports are an invaluable
way to keep track of your research. You will be miles ahead by writing down
what you knew when you started on a certain question, the steps you took to
locate and identify sources, the contents of those sources (negative and
positive), and then what you would do next if you didn't have to fix dinner
or go to an appointment. <g>

The point is we all lead interrupted lives. Writing yourself notes in the
form of a research report that reminds yourself of the train of thought you
were tracking will be extremely beneficial when you (or someone else) picks
up that problem and family line again. By giving yourself a "laundry list"
of things to check next you will kickstart your thoughts when you say to
yourself "What *was* I thinking?"

I wish I had realized this much sooner. But then that is why I enjoy
teaching beginning genealogy classes: to alert others of the efficient way
to do things.

Best wishes,
Elissa
