Colleagues,
I received this on the Kansas Heritage-L and thought you might know of
someone who could benefit from this information.

Volunteer Indexers Project, A Service for Non-profit Agencies

The-Indexer.com, an indexing company with over thirty years
professional indexing experience, has announced a new service for
non-profit agencies-a web directory of indexers providing pro bono
services to non-profit groups.

Anderson, president of The-Indexer.com, noted that these groups (local
historical societies, genealogical associations, churches, social
organizations, etc., often will have publications that could benefit
from an index. Preparing indexes, especially good indexes, is a
time-consuming task, particularly for someone with no experience in this
work.

Professional indexers typically charge $3.00 or more per text page to
prepare an index for publication. Becoming a professional indexer
requires both experience and training. Getting that experience is not
always easy for indexers just starting out. Consequently, beginning or
student indexers frequently will volunteer to create indexes for local
groups at no charge.

The Volunteer Indexer Project is a way to put indexing students in
touch with local groups who need an indexer. When you access the List of
Volunteers, you will find contact information to put you in touch with
an indexer. All arrangements then are made directly between the indexer
and you. The Webmaster of this site (The-Indexer.com) is simply
providing a link between potential clients and indexing students.

Readers and members of non-profit groups who have information that
should be indexed but do not have the time or expertise to do it
themselves may learn more about this service at
