Bear in mind that in regards to women (and children), there were varying
interpretations of women's citizenship, before the 1906 act. This ambiguity
was one reason for the act. It is also worthy to note that during those
times when women had fewer legal rights, the right and benefits of
citizenship were not as crucial as they were later.
