Ah, the misconceptions Americans have grown up with! Interracial marriages
occurred in just about all the antebellum Southern states. Even when Alabama
finally passed a law against black-white marriage in 1853, it did not
declare such marriages null and void. It just penalized the officials who
performed the ceremonies.
