Both my daughter and I were able to recently buy laptops for about $800 from
Best Buy a few months apart. Look for a sale or a good rebate offer. What I
liked about the displays at Best Buy was that it said which computer
configuration was good for what purpose: music CD, Photos, movies,
portability, etc.
I ended up getting a Presario 2100 by Compaq which has a CD burner and about
10 times the hard drive size of my old one. I did have to buy a wireless
card as it did not come with one, but that was cheaper than moving to the
next level up at the time. If you don't do wireless then you may not need to
have that as a consideration. But it sure is nice to sit on the couch or at
the kitchen or patio table and have Internet access with no wires.
The hardest part of all this is the upgrade in software I have been doing
(Hence my other message on Family Quest Archives 1.5) and making sure
everything that I care about has been moved off the old one, and still
works.
Best wishes on your decision,
Elissa
