Joan,

What are your needs? What exactly will you be using the laptop for?

I went down this road myself about six months ago. I actually opted for a
full multi-media laptop that burns DVD's (Sony VAIO). I can edit movies and
create personalized DVD's with mine. A wonderful asset when doing an oral
history interview. The DVD burner is also wonderful for creating a slide
show of photographs with background music to play at family reunions. I can
also import older movies on VHS (with the help of my Sony Digital Video
Recorder) and then burn them to DVD. Also a wonderful asset for preserving
disintegrating family movies that were originally recorded on VHS cassette.

I can give you some tips if you can explain a little more in depth how you
will be using the computer.
