Subject: [APG] Disaster Plan - Update
Date: Wed, 5 Nov 2003 17:11:22 -0800 (PST)

Hello;
First of all, after reading further on the
subject, I am convinced the term "Emergency
Contingency Plan" is probably more appropriate -
I will call it "Emergency Plan" for brevity.
I'd like to thank everyone who responded; I
have kept a list of your names and the fact of
your interest. At the moment, I don't have time
to reply individually.
After reading through some of the materiel I
was able to locate on my own, and some of that
thoughtfully recommended by a few of you, I have
come to the realisation that I will not be able
to complete more than a rough draft by the end of
the year. There is just too much left to do;
reviewing other plans and articles, researching
technical issues in a few cases, then writing up
a plan, and trying to make sure noting is
omitted, etc. I will try to make at least the
rough copy available if possible, pending
completion of the final draft.
If most of you are as woefully unprepared as
I now realise I am, we really need this! Although
it may be impossible to address every issue at
once, at least we will be able to begin moving
towards greater security for our businesses.
I do have one offer to proofread (and still
need to contact that person directly), but if
anyone is interested in helping, the following
concerns remain. Although I believe I have enough
reference materiel to cover much of what I will
need, I was unable to download, print, or even
view the checklists referred to in FEMA's guide
on the subject. There are various software
packages out there that are supposed to help
guide you through the process. I will be
mentioning those in the plan, but wanted to
include actual checklists adapted to this model
plan, for those who can't afford the cost of
another software package on top of trying to
follow the recommendations of the completed plan.
So, if anyone can come with hard copies of
checklists on this subject, and mail them to me,
that would be helpful.
Also, if any of you have dealt with
emergencies, I would appreciate notes on your
experiences; what you did that worked, and what
you wish you had done with the benefit of
hindsight.
Finally, if anyone with a web site would
like to volunteer to post the rough draft when it
is done, so others can view and review it, it is
the only method I can think of for accomplishing
this step at little or no cost. I could save the
draft in Rich Text Format, so anyone could access
it.
Thanks again,

Ray
