I can't recall if it was ever paid directly to the Funeral Home or not -- but
it was frequently paid to the person who submitted a receipted funeral bill
when there was no qualifying relative. I paid out many a Lump Sum Death
Payment during the years I worked for Social Security.
Note that "column B" - "last
benefit" address - does not necessary mean "death benefit" - it could be the
last regular benefit, for example.
