Speaking of which, the Dutchess County Genealogical Society had a board
meeting this morning at which our web site manager present the results
of a survey she had done of board members asking 1) what software we
used for our board responsibilities, and 2) what kinds of data we had in
files related to our society responsibilities. One of her points was
that each board member had some kind of files related to the society,
and there was basically no duplication. So if something happened to
someone, we might lose a huge amount of valuable data (e.g., the
membership database).
We decided that at the next meeting, and from now on, every six months,
each board member who had any files related to the society would make a
backup on a floppy disk and bring a copy to the meeting, to be placed in
the society library.
Something for other people involved in societies to think about.
