Funny timing. I just today replaced my old UPS after it had succumbed to the
strain of this summer's power brownouts. All the indicator lights would be
in a "go" condition, but turning on a TV on the same circuit was enough to
crash the PC when the battery backup voltage regulation tried to kick in and
the battery couldn't keep up.
I'd recommend that all PC users consider a UPS/surge protector as their
first line of defense in disaster planning. After losing a few un-saved
documents to power outages I decided that a UPS at home wasn't overkill.
