Good day, friends.

I have just arrived home after the return drive from Alabama to Wisconsin and the 39th Annual IGHR at Samford University in Birmingham. It was a great chance to acquaint with folks known from online postings (my seatmate, Alvie), and to get a chance to put faces with names known from articles, etc.

We took Course 4, "Advanced Methods" with Elizabeth Shown Mills as our course coordinator. Besides Elizabeth, we also had Helen Leary, John Philip Colletta and Craig Scott as our lecturers. My classmates were a sharp bunch and we had a lot of fun together on the various search/practices problems we were assigned for homework. While we worked hard, it was well worth the effort.

Thanks to all the BCG folk there for helping to take some of the "mystery" out of the certification process and explaining, in clear and unmistakable terms, the evaluation process and written requirements. That, exclusive of everything else, made the week worth the time!

I can't speak for others, but I certainly have a whole new stable full of ideas for attacking some of those "problem" lines that have languished in the back of the filing cabinet for 20+ years.

I will wear my yellow "survivor's badge" with great pride.

Thank you to Elizabeth and the rest of the instructors, and also to Jean Thomason from the Samford staff for the arrangements on campus. (Although I may never look at broccoli quite the same way again. ;-P> )

If ever you wonder about going...just DO IT! It will be a week well-spent.

Cheers!
