Rebecca;
The only way to do this is to use scanning
software that incorporates an OCR program, or to
pass the scanned image on to an OCR program (OCR
= Optical Character Recognition) to convert the
pixels of the scan into text that Word can
import.
There are SERIOUS problems with this
approach. Most OCR programs are far from ideal at
reading characters; many genealogical CDs that
include text with multiple obvious errors were
produced by scanning the text in using OCR.
Since the finished product is so likely to
contain errors, it would be necessary for someone
to read over the text generated by the OCR and
compare it with the original family group sheets,
correcting any errors. Not an easy task, since
the eye tends to see what it "expects" to see
during proofreading.
Lots of luck. ;<)
