Subject: [APG] Symbols for Transcription

Jerry;
This will be a very quick posting; the
Masters of the Iron Horse are back in North
Carolina, which is EXCELLENT, and the trip was
well worth it, but exhausting...
In answer to your question, I envisioned two
different symbols for "Not Applicable" and
"Blank" for use with predesigned forms and / or
databases. In either case, the form or database
may include a space for information which was not
provided in the original record. The difference
lies in whether the original record form
REQUESTED the information, but it was not filled
in (Blank), or whether the information is
available on records for part of the period
covered by the form / database, but was NOT
intended to be a part of the specific record
being transcribed (Not Applicable). In some
cases, it is important to know if the information
was supposed to be present but was omitted.
I hope that is clear ;<)
The first day, we arrived at Norfolk VA, at
the home of my wife's niece, at 3:00 a.m. and got
to bed at 3:30 - had to press on to North
Carolina the next day. The first flight was
mainly officers, and Jeremy did not arrive until
the second flight, about 2:00 a.m. Counting time
to drive him to storage to retrieve civilian
clothes (REQUIRED by military regs) and one hour
drive to the nearest vacant hotel room, we got to
bed about 6:00 a.m.! So you will know why, if I
am not clear right now...
Ray
