A very good book for Pennsylvania researchers is: _The Pennsylvania Line_,
published by Southwest Pennsylvania Genealogy Services. I don't know if this
is still in print. Be careful, because there are two books by this title.
For general research purposes, you *don't* want the one by John B. B.
Trussell, as it deal specifically with the Pennsylvania Line in the
Revolutionary War (but is good for a background on Rev. war research in PA).
The SW PA Gen Services Book includes many useful sections, including maps
showing formation of the counties, lists of towns and the counties they are
located in, etc. I believe it also has addresses for courthouses.
Unfortunately, I haven't unpacked my copy yet since I moved two weeks ago,
or I could give you better details.

Another item that may be useful for those doing research in Pennsylvania
before 1820 or so is a pamphlet I put together called "Lost in Pennsylvania?
Try the Pennsylvania Archives." This is available from the Genealogical
Society of Pennsylvania, and originally appeared in their magazine a few
years ago. It makes the point that libraries all over the US own this
series; you don't have to go to Pennsylvania to use them. Lest anyone think
I am trying to profit from this, I will make the disclaimer that I do not
receive royalites from GSP for this pamphlet.

Donna Bingham Munger's _Pennsylvania Land Records: A History and Guide for
Research_ is also a good source for information on land records--*very*
in-depth information.

If my books were unpacked, I could probably supply some more sources.... If
I come up with any more really good ones, I'll let you know.
