Beverly (and the others who responded to her):
Y'all may be interested in knowing that the professional manual that is now
out with a couple of publishers, has more than one chapter that addresses
this issue. Val D. Greenwood, J.D., AG, is covering it from the standpoint
of copyright law and the ethics chapter by Dr. Neil Thompson, LL. B., CG,
FASG, will not only consider legalities but also the other client-researcher
issues that Beverly's question involves. The Appendix will present
comparative Codes of Ethics from quite a few of genealogy's professional and
credentialing organizations worldwide.
As for y'all's next question -- when <g> -- I can't give you an exact month.
Two publishers have asked for it. Both have a copy in hand. One has already
submitted a bid and the other's will be in shortly. Its size (nearly 700
pages, with 29 chapters by 22 authors) means somewhat more prep time for
whichever publisher we decide on, so it definitely won't be ready by the NGS
conference. We're hoping it will for the FGS.
