Hi Bob,
I stand corrected, but I thought that some or all of the prisoners at
Lancaster were Hessians. To me anything that effected the Hessians or
envolved them such as the a lottery draw, even if the person whose name was
drawn wasn't a Hessian; would be information needed to learn about how they
were treated or at least the attitude under which they lived as prisoners.

Am I wrong?

Who was a Hessian"

Moses Hazen was a British-born, ex-British army officer, who had settled on
the Richelieu River in Quebec. Joshua Huddy was an American-born Captain of
NJ militia, the grandson of a NJ judge. Lieut-Capt Charles Asgill was
British nobility, the only son and heir of a Baronet.

On 6 Dec 1781 Brigadier General Moses Hazen's regiment was ordered into
winter quarters at Lancaster with the added responsibility of guarding the
POWs interred at Lancaster. Hazen's regiment was at Lancaster through at
least Sep 1782.
