I, too, am a little puzzled by the reference to a "2nd list" which I assume
is the referring to the 2nd "Trenton" list published by the JSHA in the 1985
_Journal_ (the 1st list being the 712 names published in 1976 in _Johannes
Schwalm, the Hessian_).

The "official Hessian list" is Marburg citation Best. 4 h 410, no. 1
"Monatliche Meldungen und Verlust- und Gefangenenlisten nach der Niederlage
von Trenton" which HETRINA cites as ref: 4H410/xxx. There is a companion
document Marbirg citation Best 4 h 328, No 111-115 "Akten des Kriegsgerichts
über die Niederlage von Trenton" which lists the members of the Regiment v.
Knyhausen who were NOT captured.

I believe that the list published in 1976 was a composite list made up from
records found in America. These records included:
(a) Three lists of troops who marched from Lancaster to Philadelphia in June
1778 (who arrived too late to be exchanged The British haveng ecavuacted
Philadelphia and were marching back to New York). These documents are in
the Library of Congress, Mauscripts Division, Peter Force Collection, Series
IX, No. 24 & 25
(b) At least one list of prisioners received at Philadelphia from Lancaster.
The citation is maerely "Pennslyvania Historcal Society" which I presume is
the Historical Society of Pensylvania. http://www.hsp.org/
(c) A list of prisoners who went out to work. (Peter Force Collection,
Series IX, No. 21.

I believe that the list published in 1985 was expanded to include the
Hessian material cited above. As I write this, I can't find my copy of this
list.
