Hello Susan,
some additional tidbits about the Chaplain Wagner -

S#329v1/2, page 65 (author Terrence M. Punch, Halifax):
Wagner, Johann Christoph, Chaplain in 1.Battln. Ansbach
troops, married, 5 children. He was granted 400 acres in
Clements in 1783, but returned to Germany.

S#124page 75:
John Christopher Wagner did not remain in the province very
long, but sold his lot at Clements the following November
(1785/86?) and passed out of the picture.
It is unlikely that he did any work among his countrymen.
In 1790 Bishop Inglis refers to the inhabitants of Clements
as ".....the people for whom Mr. Waggoner was intended, and
who, they tell me, has disappointed them, he having gone to
the continent of Europe....."

S#336 (personal correspondence with Dr.Terrence M. Punch,
O.M.L.J., past President Royal Nova Scotia Historical Society,
Certified Genealogist, Halifax, N.S.
Three men with the name of Wagner/Wagener had land grants
in Clements Ts.:
John Christ. 400 acres,
Nicholas, 100 acres, (see Nikolaus Wagner, (WAL)
Richard, 100 acres in 1786.
(One or the other left descendants, as the 1879/81 directory
shows, at North Range (10 miles from Digby - Richard and
William. Also at Weymouth Bridge (22 miles from Digby),
Benjamin, George, John, John E., Peter.)
Terry Punch suspects that those at North Range descend
from Richard, but those of Weymouth Bridge could belong
to either J.C. or Nicolaus Wagner.

S#33 (Staedtler) page 73: There is further information about
Wagner's life (copy of source at the S.A.R. Library,
'Merz Collection), stating that his sons remained in Nova Scotia.

I may add at this point that Dr. Punch is a well-known Nova Scotia
genealogist, with his own TV-and Radio show, and has a
Hessian ancestor himself. Without his help my book
"The Hessians of Nova Scotia" (still available) would not have
been written. Judging by all what was said, the Chaplain left
Nova Scotia for a destination only known to him, but left behind
his sons. It may well be that Mr. Craig Chandler descends from
a son of his, but believe me, your ancestor had gobe South.

Greetings,
John Helmut Merz
who went to Nova Scotia myself to find the truth.

> Yes, I'm as "active as ever" because I will never rest until I find out
about my Christopher. I work on it nearly every day, and your help has been
immeasurable. I've completed reading through about two-thirds of the list
archives, so far, and am learning so much. As is your feeling, I can easily
envision that the Christopher Waggoner in Allegany Co., MD (1792-1830's) was
one in the same as Johann Christoph Wagner, A-B Feldprediger, but there are
still some looming questions:

Craig Chandler, of Nova Scotia, and he says that his Johann Christoph Wagner
never left the area...he is currently gathering his info to show me the
proof. Is this the same descendant who told you he left the area? <SNIP>
