A few Stricklands are listed on two rolls of the Eastern Cherokee,
however none match the names you cited. Since you did not provide the
father's name, I could not include him in the search. The Guion Miller
roll of 1909 has five Stricklands: Ellese, Mary L., Clifford A., John
Robert, and Roy. The Hester roll of 1883 has three: Catherine, Catie
Claire, and Louise E.
Many American Indians did not enroll or move during the Indian Removal,
but hid out among mountains and neighboring non-Indians and survived by
hiding their ancestry, often from their own children. The link below is
to a true story about being "part Indian". I knew the doctor in the
story through email, but never got to meet him. He died last year.
