Hello, Dianne - There are no silly questions in family history research,
but the questions are endless!
Sorry, can't help with "Canada, p.a. Doles".
I do know there are lots and lots of MacDonalds in Nova Scotia (especially
in and around Antigonish). Consider looking in the Antigonish, Pictou and
Cape Breton areas for Scottish names - particularly for your grandfather,
Reginald W. MacDonald. Is there a particular reason why you are looking for
him in Alberta?
You may have good luck by reading the queries as well as posting your own
information to some of the Canada GenWeb bulletin board sites.
If you start with http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/index/Canada.html
you will see "Unknown Provinces" and "Nova Scotia":
1. http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/Canada/Unknown/Unknown
2. http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/index/NovaScotia.html
Nova Scotia: You will see General/ Queries at:
http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/Canada/NovaScotia/General
If you think Nova Scotia is a possibility for your grandfather's
birthplace, and if you decide to dig deeper, you will find a long list of
links to Nova Scotia resources at: http://www.shelburne.nscc.ns.ca/nsgna
Good luck!
