I am trying to establish some family history concerning my
Great-Grandfather, James Arthur Thomas (b1872), who as a young man went to
South Africa to seek his fortune; so that, with some money in his pocket, he
could claim the hand of the woman he loved upon his return to Cornwall
(England).
I believe, tenuously based on my Grandfather's naming (Cecil Rhodes Thomas)
and family rumours, that my Great-Grandfather was a member of the Pioneer
Column. My Grandfather was most certainly named after Cecil Rhodes following
my Great Grandfathers time in Africa; that much I do know.
As such, does anyone have a copy of the Rhodesian Pioneers list that was
compiled, many moons ago, by Sir Ken Markham who used to post to this list
(I can't seem to find any trace of Sir Ken online. Has he passed away?); or
does anyone have suggestions on other leads I could/should investigate.
Kind regards,
Digby Thomas
