Subject: [AFR-ZIMBABWE] JOHNSON AND BELL IN RHODESIA
Date: Sat, 25 Nov 2006 15:30:54 -0000
I am new to this list and trying to piece together our family tree - would
appreciate any positive links or advice on the following:
JOHNSON:
Findlayson Huson Johnson left British India for Rhodesia sometime between
1920 and 1935 and worked as a coach builder in Que Que. He had two (known)
children : Betty Huson Johnson and Warwick Desmond Huson Johnson. Findlayson
was buried in Que Que and was Catholic.
ST EDWARDS CATHOLIC CHURCH, QUE QUE:
Both Betty and Warwick married in 1938 in Que Que at St Edwards Catholic
Church.
BELL:
Betty Huson Johnson married John R Chisholme BELL in 1938 in Que Que. They
had a son called Ian BELL. They lived in Harare and were apparently tobacco
farmers.
My specific questions are:
1. Are there any Zimbabwe listers who live near or have contact details of a
local researcher who could trace any remaining JOHNSON family records/
gravestones at Kwe Kwe catholic churches?
2. Ian BELL is probably a living relative - do any listers have any links
with this family, tobacco farming or advice as to how to go about tracing
Ian BELL from Harare?
I live in the UK and so would very much appreciate any advice as to how to
proceed with my Rhodesian linked family tree
