I had a look in the S A Gen book6 page 162 under :
Ongekoppeldes : NEL mans and found
Jacobus Willem Adriaan NEL age 19 from Agterveld
Married in Calvinia on 19.2.1863 Jacoba Hendrika LOUW
Age 15 from which we can take his year of birth as 1844/45 and hers as
1848.I then had a look under LOUW and found her mentioned as in Book 5 page
313 as follows :
G8 Jacoba hendrika Louw born 7.2.1849 died district Herbert on 5.6.1885
Married Calvinia 19.2.1863 Jacobus Willem Adriaan NEL (son of Jan Abraham
Nel) which gave me the right clue to his parents and I could trace him in
the Nel book on page 132 but I will give you the whole family tree as
recorded in the SA Genealogy .

Page 78 : GUILLAUME (franse naam vir Willem) NEEL of NEL * 1663, Franse
vlugteling van Rouaan, Normandie. Aankoms in Kaap voor 1690 waarskynlik aan
boord van die BORSSENBURG met sy vrou en hul twee kinders , Jean en Jeanne,
kleremaker en boer. Hy vestig hom by Blouklip, Stellenbosch en teen 1734
woon hy en sy vrou in die Kaapse distrik.Reeds in 1705 is hy as Willem Nel
bekend en het hy sy naam so geteken. + c. 1734.
Hy trou in Amsterdam Nederland op 3.5.1685 met JEANNE DE LA BATTE * Samour
langs die Loire rivier c 1663. Hulle het 10 kinders en jou man stam van die
8ste kind af.

B8 Elias = Stellenbosch 28.7.1701, boer te Drakenstein x 21.10.1731 Anna
Coetzee jonk oorlede, geen kinders nie.

I presume that the sons of JWA Nell moved to SWA during the 1880-1900 and
settled in the south near keetmanshoop and mariental. In Keetmanshoop there
used to be a wellknown farmer Casper Nell and also a building named after
Hendrik Nell. They are the only family as far as I know that use the double
LL all others are with one L.

If you want to make contact I found the following in the telephone directory
in Mariental that had fax and email. Try them you might be lucky !!

Dear List,

I have just joined this list and am very excited as I have just heard that
my husbands NELL family were from SWA in the early days.

His great grandfathers name was Jacobus Willem Adriaan NELL and his g grand
mothers name was Jacobs Hendrika LOUW. They had 15 children - so we are
told.

Their one son's name was Jacobus Adriaan NELL and we believe he was one of
the 15 children. We heard that one of the siblings was called "KASPER"
presumably a nick name.

Would love to hear from anyone who may be able to help with this line.
