Dear Co-Researchers!

I just subscribed to this list and in the archive I saw, there are
some knowledgeable people from the area of my interest. I would be
very thankful for any tipps for further research.

I am seeking for the origins of my surname and its variations. Just
in case you are interested there is a short english summary available
at <http://atlantis.cyty.com/wischkony/en/>;

Now I am looking for the exact place of birth of Karl WISCHKON.

This is what I already know about Karl from the WWW, some reading
and the contact with a grandson of him, living in Swakopmund.

- According to his grandson he was born 1872-11-03, presumably
somewhere in Upper Silesia.
- In 1894 he landed in Swakopmund as a soldier.
<http://www.klausdierks.com/Chronology/49.htm>;
- In 1902-03-27 he again comes to Swakopmund on board of the
"Ernst Wöhrmann" together with his wife Clara.
(*1878-11-29 in ? as Clara ?, + 1950-03-24, Swakopmund)
Any further information about Clara and the marriage is very
much appreciated as well.
- There is a plant species /anacampseros wischkonii/ which was
first described as found near Khan.

Some nice old photos of the mine you can see here:
<http://www.ub.bildarchiv-dkg.uni-frankfurt.de/Bildprojekt/formular/arrayausgabe.php?start=1&user=RNamibiaSPFVKhan250voll>;
- Karls grandson was told by his mother, he once were a manager at
the Khan Copper Mine, where she grew up.
- 1943-06-01 Karl dies and is buried in Swakopmund

Which sources should his grandson or I try to explore?
- Why does the late Dr. Dierks mention him namely? From what I know,
he was no officer.
- Are the members of the "Schutztruppe" listed in some Namibian
Archive?
- Which company ran the Khan Copper Mine? From what I see on the
web, it was operated for a short time only.
- What would be registered with the birth of children of Karl
and Clara? How are these records available?
- Which information is to be expected from the death certificates
and how could they be obtained?
- Were there usually any obituaries? Where are the newspaper
archives, if any?
- What else to look for?
- All tipps, hints or comments are very much appreciated.

From all of the above I feel he hasn't been a nobody, so I expect
some traces to be left.

Thank you very much in advance and
Greetings from the town of Henry the Lion in Germany
Kay Wischkony
