Hi Alison
You write that your grandfather was George Barrell - do you have any dates ?
When and where was he born - when did he come to SWA
Did he live in Windhoek - were did he work. Do you have a marriage date and
place. I could find out if I could get you a copy here. We have a helpful
home affairs office.
The grave in swakopmund I can look up for you as there is a list available
at the cemetary
Do you have a date ?
Hotel Rheinischer Hof was in Kaiser street Windhoek close to the corner of
John Meinert Street
Opposite of where the KUDU statue stands in front of the high court
I think that First National Bank - John meinert street branch is on that
erf. I will find out for you.
I cannot find anything about it on the web either but photos must excist at
the research library.
I will find out but you will have to wait a bit . I think it was demolished
before 1960.
I vaguely remember that it was used as a second hand furniture place in 1958
but I know someone who worked in that place and will ask him if I am
correct.
They used to have permanent residents as I remember that the Postmaster of
the 1930's Mr Williams ,
Also lived there with his wife . I read an old newspaper clipping after he
passed away that he lived there permanently and used to receive his friend
on the stoep where they would all have a cold beer on a warm summer night.
That's all I can tell you at this stage.
Regards
Marie
