Hello Nate,

And thanks for the links Ana. I am collecting info on 17th century Angola
and Nzinga, but I don't know the Portuguese language. I have documented the
first Angolans as arriving in Virginia 1 year before the Pilgrims arrived at
Plymouth Rock in 1620. Several professors and other scholars are quoting my
research for upcoming books. (I was able to discover the lost name of the
ship that brought the first "20 and odd" Africans to North America in 1619.)
A couple of my articles are on the internet (see below link if you are
interested) and I have written about them for some hardcopy magazines and am
working on a book manuscript. These Angolans communities in America mixed
with Whites and Native Americans and became known as Melungeons (from an old
Kimbundu word "malungu.") They still exist today. Famous Americans with
17th century Angolan American ancestry include Halle Berry, Elvis Presley,
Tom Hanks, Nancy Hanks (mother of Abraham Lincoln) Arthur Ashe, Benjamin
Chaves, Steve Martin, Ava Gardiner and Heather Locklear etc.
