I have to try to clarify the diocese records. When there is a new diocese
formed, the records usually stay with the original diocese. In Baton Rouge,
we were fortunate that we kept all records for the parishes in the diocese
instead of the records going to New Orleans diocese when Baton Rouge became a
diocese.

The records you see in Fr Hebert's books were taken directly from the church
records. The reason you may see so many in St. Martinville is because it may
have been the only church in the area, so everyone had to go there to be
married or baptized. In addition there were a lot of Acadians who settled in
and around St. Martinville.
