Hi, I would like to know how you are putting in the data of where people were
married, died, born, baptized etc. in your records. This is what I am
seeing--i.e. in Donald Hebert's, "SW Louisiana Records" the name of the
church or court house is recorded. But, I don't think most were actually
married etc where it says. I think this was where it was registered! I have
been putting St. Martinville, La. on a lot of listings. I am wondering if
this is the correct thing to do. Maybe I should just put Louisiana and then
put the place of registration in my notes? Any ideas as to which would be
the most correct? How do you list yours? Thank you, BG

Hi, One of the reasons I mentioned this is that when I was in Louisiana
looking up marriages etc. I was told that the records are also sent to the
main diocese of the time and place. i.e. some even went on to New Orleans or
Baton Rouge? after being registered in St. Martinville. This made me wonder
if marriages, etc. were/could be performed elsewhere and then registered at
the closest diocese. I find it hard to believe that so many went as far as
St. Martinville to be married. Some of the baptisms in Hebert's "SW Louisiana
Records" do say the baptism was performed 'at home of'. I don't believe I
have seen this for marriages? I don't remember where I read, that a lot of
marriages were performed at home or at friends or relatives homes. I just
want to make my information as accurate as possible. I do believe that most
everyone are putting down St. Martinville when D. Hebert says it is recorded
there. Interested in all respondances. BG
