Well, I imagine that maybe a few Acadians who made it to Québec, the city,
found that life wasn't much more rosier there either in those years.
Probably a few of them, fed up with the whole situation, packed it up and
tried their hand in the fur trade. The following is from (surprisingly)
Complete Idiots Guide to the Old West, p.47:

The earthworks are all that remain of fort Kaskaskia. Kaskaskia Bell
Memorial, a satellite site of Fort Kaskaskia, is located on the 14,000 acre
Kaskaskia Is. The old church bell, cast in France in 1741, was a gift t othe
early Illinois Indians from the King of France. It is affectionately called
the "Liberty Bell of the West" Fort Kaskaksia is located six miles north of
Chester, Illinois via State Route 3.
