But is the pint a pound the world around?

Is the UK pint the same as a US pint?

If I ordered a pint of stout, would I get more liquid?

FRED

Fred,
It is not totally true to say that Britain has abandoned the Imperial system.
Beer, for example, is sold by the pint.
While shopkeepers were at the start require to
ell cheese, bacon, etc by the kilo, but now they
an double mark and sell by the pound or by the
ilo. We still use foot rules, double marked, perhaps, in Imperial & metric.
The pound avoirdupois comprises 16 ounces and the
unce 16 drams to keep the binary system, of course.
Avoirdupois - to have some peas or to have a pee

he change to metric produced some very amusing consequences.
Wood was sold as 2" by 2" - which is merely approximated to 50 mm * 50 mm.
[ Thus ignoring the .8 mm as one inch = 25.4 mm, approx. ]
Door sizes remain the same, we still do *not* have metric houses!
Electricity is sold by the kilowatt hour thus
reserving the name of our James Watt, remembered
or his part in developing the steam engine.
Capacitors are measured in decimals of a Farad,
hus remembering Sir Michael Faraday.
Aeroplane speeds are still quoted as so many mph.
Mach one (the speed of sound) is still c. 770
ph, but both temperature and medium dependant.
The acceleration due to gravity is still 32 feet per sec per sec.
The speed of light is still 186,000 odd mph.
