And then there was John Wayne who played the cop character; McQ

When I was in wood shop in high school, I made a cue stick. I used walnut
and fixed it so it came apart. I had trouble with the threads and socket.
Finally made it work. It was really pretty. The walnut board I picked was near the
center of the tree trunk. I sanded and then used a fine wet, white sand to
finish it off and then three coats of non-yellowing spar varnish. A real
beauty. I soft sanded each coat and then waxed the last coat.

A couple years later I joined the Air Force. I left my cue in the pool hall
where I often played.

I sort of forgot about it. The owner placed my beautiful cue in the window
of his pool hall as kind of an ad.

He forgot about it.

It was in the window from August to mid-December. I came home on Christmas
leave for 10 days.

There was my walnut cue in the window. The sun had warped it into a deep
bow. It would have been great to string and go make some arrows and shoot a deer
(or the pool hall owner). I told Bill Hubbard to just leave it in the
window.

I went back about 14 years later and it was still there. The cue was almost
a circle. The tag he had put on it had faded and you could barely read my
name. The old pool hall is gone now. I think it is a cafe.

Fred,

AND, taking his cue from us Brits, he would then
have to queue up for another cue at the sports shop..

Having done so, he could then say "thank cue" to the shop assistant.
