<link>http://archiver.rootsweb.com/th/read/GENEALOGY-DNA/2008-08/1219273524</link>
<description>I just noticed you said little &#x22;dark&#x22; triangles, not little &#x22;blue&#x22; ones. Duhhh.&#x3C;BR&#x3E;&#x3C;BR&#x3E;If the triangles are dark *green*, it means Excel thinks there&#x27;s a conflict&#x3C;BR&#x3E;between the default format for the cell and the keystrokes you entered. I would&#x3C;BR&#x3E;highlight the entire column, then set the format for the entire column to&#x3C;BR&#x3E;whatever would be compatible with the data you are entering in that field.&#x3C;BR&#x3E;&#x3C;BR&#x3E;Sorry for my initial mis-reading of your message,&#x3C;BR&#x3E;Diana&#x3C;BR&#x3E;&#x3C;BR&#x3E;&#x3E; -----Original Message-----&#x3C;BR&#x3E;&#x3E; From: genealogy-dna-bounces@rootsweb.com On Behalf Of Ken Nordtvedt&#x3C;BR&#x3E;&#x3E; Sent: Wednesday, August 20, 2008 1:09 PM&#x3C;BR&#x3E;&#x3E; To: GENEALOGY-DNA-L@rootsweb.com&#x3C;BR&#x3E;&#x3E; Subject: [DNA] Excel&#x27;s little upper left triangles?&#x3C;BR&#x3E;&#x3E; &#x3C;BR&#x3E;&#x3E; I entered some data into an excel spreadsheet and some of the &#x3C;BR&#x3E;&#x3E; squares show a little dark triangle in the upper left corner &#x3C;BR&#x3E;&#x3E; of the squares in addition to the entered numbers. <title>Re: [DNA] Help with Privacy Issues/Concerns</title>
<link>http://archiver.rootsweb.com/th/read/GENEALOGY-DNA/2008-08/1219271363</link>
<description>My understanding is that Congress passed a law a few months ago making it&#x3C;BR&#x3E;illegal for insurance companies to discriminate on the basis of DNA status.&#x3C;BR&#x3E;However, as far as I know, there&#x27;s nothing medically important revealed by the&#x3C;BR&#x3E;tests used in genealogy.&#x3C;BR&#x3E;&#x3C;BR&#x3E;Still, if the person is going to lose sleep over it, have them submit the sample&#x3C;BR&#x3E;anonymously.  I have two members in my projects whose names are &#x22;Anonymous&#x3C;BR&#x3E;[SURNAME]&#x22; -- with me, the project admin, as the contact person.  &#x3C;BR&#x3E;&#x3C;BR&#x3E;Be aware that whoever *purchases* the kit would presumably be recognized as the&#x3C;BR&#x3E;legal owner of the sample [anyone tested this legal issue yet?].  I think it&#x27;s&#x3C;BR&#x3E;far more important to remain the legal owner of one&#x27;s sample than it is to&#x3C;BR&#x3E;remain anonymous as the test subject.  I tell people to be much more worried&#x3C;BR&#x3E;about someone knowing their Social Security number than knowing their DNA test&#x3C;BR&#x3E;results -- and I&#x27;d much rather have someone know my haplotype than my weight!&#x3C;BR&#x3E;&#x3C;BR&#x3E;Seriously, once I had my mtDNA FGS (full genetic sequence) analyzed for any&#x3C;BR&#x3E;medical problems (there were none), I am so unconcerned that I&#x27;ve made my FGS&#x3C;BR&#x3E;public.  &#x3C;BR&#x3E;&#x3C;BR&#x3E;Speaking frankly, I think it&#x27;s unfair to be anonymous.  Everyone else is sharing&#x3C;BR&#x3E;their identity with theirr matchees, so remaining anonymous makes it a one-way&#x3C;BR&#x3E;street.  &#x22;You show me yours, but I won&#x27;t show you mine.&#x22;   But if being&#x3C;BR&#x3E;anonymous is what it takes to get them to agree to being tested, yes, it can be&#x3C;BR&#x3E;done.&#x3C;BR&#x3E;&#x3C;BR&#x3E;Diana&#x3C;BR&#x3E;&#x3C;BR&#x3E;&#x3C;BR&#x3E;&#x3E; -----Original Message-----&#x3C;BR&#x3E;&#x3E; From: genealogy-dna-bounces@rootsweb.com On Behalf Of Ncee&#x3C;BR&#x3E;&#x3E; Sent: Monday, August 18, 2008 11:56 AM&#x3C;BR&#x3E;&#x3E; To: Genealogy-DNA@rootsweb.com&#x3C;BR&#x3E;&#x3E; Subject: [DNA] Help with Privacy Issues/Concerns&#x3C;BR&#x3E;&#x3E; &#x3C;BR&#x3E;&#x3E; I would appreciate any suggestions on arguments/resources I &#x3C;BR&#x3E;&#x3E; could use to help convince someone to take the DNA test for &#x3C;BR&#x3E;&#x3E; genealogy purposes only - the person is quite concerned about &#x3C;BR&#x3E;&#x3E; the results being used in an undesirable manner (i.e., &#x3C;BR&#x3E;&#x3E; insurance companies, etc). &#x3C;BR&#x3E;&#x3E; &#xA0;&#x3C;BR&#x3E;&#x3E; Is there any legal reason that a sample for genealogy DNA &#x3C;BR&#x3E;&#x3E; testing should/could not be submitted with an &#x3C;BR&#x3E;&#x3E; anonymous/&#x22;disguised&#x22;&#xA0;&#xA0;name?&#x3C;BR&#x3E;&#x3E; &#xA0;&#x3C;BR&#x3E;&#x3E; Thanks for your replies. &#x3C;BR&#x3E;&#x3E; &#x3C;BR&#x3E;&#x3E; &#x3C;BR&#x3E;&#x3E; &#x3C;BR&#x3E;&#x3E;       &#x3C;BR&#x3E;&#x3E;  &#x3C;BR&#x3E;&#x3E; -------------------------------&#x3C;BR&#x3E;&#x3E; To unsubscribe from the list, please send an email to &#x3C;BR&#x3E;&#x3E; GENEALOGY-DNA-request@rootsweb.com with the word &#x3C;BR&#x3E;&#x3E; &#x27;unsubscribe&#x27; without the quotes in the subject and the body &#x3C;BR&#x3E;&#x3E; of the message&#x3C;BR&#x3E;&#x3E; &#x3C;BR&#x3E;&#x3E; &#x3C;BR&#x3E;&#x3C;BR&#x3E;&#x3C;BR&#x3E;

<link>http://archiver.rootsweb.com/th/read/GENEALOGY-DNA/2008-08/1219252167</link>
